Celebrating our 10th Anniversary at Burning Man!

CAMP VIDEOGASM 2008

Doing it on the playa since 1998!

What is this? I thought last year was Videogasm's 10th Anniversary? Well.... yes and no. Although last year was Videogasm's 10th Burn. This year marks our official 10th Anniversary at Burning Man (1998-2008). So here's a second chance for all of you who were with us in 2007 as well as those who missed out on last year's celebration to help us do it all over again! Only this time, bigger and better!

Get in on the ground floor of Camp Videogasm's 10th Anniversary Celebration Part 2! I'm looking forward to hearing from all of you! Feel free to email me Early Poppycock with any thoughts or ideas. Also don't forget the link to the Videogasm BBS (yahoo groups) page below. It's a great way to share ideas with the rest of the group. Not already a member, no problem. It only takes a minute to sign up.

Spread the word! And I hope to see you all on the playa!

Videogasm To Host The 48 Hour Film Project: BRC 2008

THE 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT RETURNS TO BURNING MAN!

For the forth year in a row, the 48 Hour Film Project will be at Burning Man!

Meet strangers and gather friends to make fiction films--write, shoot, and edit them--on the playa. Then a huge audience will gather to watch the films.

So bring a video camera to the playa! Bring a computer! Come create film art, and tell a story in the celluloid medium, spin yarns instead of fire, participate and collaborate with their films.

We'll also need:
- kind-hearted souls, to lend cameras and editing equipment to the effort
- editors, preferably with equipment, to help the filmmakers finish their films before the showing

Check out our website: http://www.48hourfilm.com/blackrockcity

And email us with any questions: blackrockcity@48hourfilm.com

See your bad filmmaking self on the playa!"

Help The Spray Dogs Leave A Trace!

Spray paint artists The Spray Dogs will be tagging t-shirts and anything else that comes their way every afternoon in Videogasm's Playa Theatre. Come on out and get tagged!

Q: What's with Camp Videogasm?

A: The Main Feature of Camp Videogasm is our Playa Theater. Our goal is show to independent and experimental video on our large projection screens to the good citizens of Black Rock City every evening starting at sundown. As always, we are looking for short form (30 minutes or less) videos and films to display at our Playa Theater. We're also looking for daytime interactivity. If you have any ideas for daytime activities (performance, demonstration, games, discussion, etc.) and are looking for a place to do them, Camp Videogasm could be the place for you! We offer our shade structures and a P.A. If you are in need of anything else, we will do our best to accommodate you. Contact either Andy Wing, or myself, Early Poppycock , if you have any interest in Camp Videogasm.

Q: Why should I camp with you?

A: You live in the greater Philadelphia or Metro Detroit area, and need a way to get your stuff out to Black Rock City. You yourself are a Video Artist, or have an interest in video art. You have some strange, offensive, arty, fill in your own adjective here, video that you'd like to show ( DVD or VCD formats please). We are part of Snowflake Village a group of campers coming primarily from the snow belt of the eastern half of the United States. (Hey If your a West Coaster, don't be scared off! At Camp Videogasm EVERYONE is welcome!) Being part of a Village gives us prime frontage on Burning Man's main drag. We've done this kind of thing before. We have lots of stuff that will make your stay in Black Rock City more enjoyable. See Below...

The Truck - A 24' panel truck, the foundation of the whole camp. It will serve as storage, as well as, our main video control center while on the playa.

Shade Structures / Playa Theater - We will be constructing an improved 25' diameter dome covered with camo netting as our main camp shade structure. In addition to the main structure, we will have a 20' x 30' structure that will serve as an additional chill space / dining area during the day, and as our playa theater at night.

Big Screen Video Projection - We have a 6' x 8' rear projection video screen that will be attached to one end of our shade structure for night time viewing of video "art". We are also planning on having a large (8' x 10') outdoor screen. One screen will most likely be used for screenings of short videos and films. The remaining screen will be set up for visual accompaniment for music.

PA/Sound/Lights -Andy Wing and myself will be providing these. Andy will again be bringing his PA, and it will be used to supply sound for our main screen. Also if we do go with the two screen set up described above, we will use a smaller PA system for the Playa Theater.

Generator - We'll have at least one large generator (5000 watts ) for the sound, lights and video projectors.  It will not run constantly. We also have a 1000 watt inverter that we plan to use primarily for camp lighting, and as a back up.

Camp Kitchen - There will be 10' x 10' camp kitchen tent equipped with a two burner propane stove, cast iron cookware, basic cooking utensils, coffee pot, sink (with water), prep area, and two large 120 quart coolers, available for use by all camp members. In addition to the Camp Kitchen, there will be a village wide Pot Luck Dinner. If possible, please try to prepare a dish that the whole village can enjoy. The exact day has not yet been decided, but usually it's later in the week, exact day TBA.

Enclosed Shower - There will be a private shower available for daily use by all of our camp members.

Q: How much will it cost?

A: Camp dues will be $60 per person.  This includes use of the above items plus 2 gallons of water per day. No food will be supplied. I would however like to encourage you all to participate in the organization and preparation of a nightly pot luck dinner. Could someone please take the lead on this? Food preparation is not my strong point.

NOTE: Transportation of cargo on the 24' panel truck in NOT INCLUDED! For more info see... www.videogasm.com/burningman/bigoletruck
